About Me
MY NAME IS Haldon Ashton
I feel blessed to have a career in a profession that has been enjoyable and rewarding. I have enjoyed being able to follow the calls written in old deeds and actually finding evidence that the former surveyor had written about. The lines we retrace and stake will provide future surveyors evidence of the intended boundary.
I was a construction surveyor in the United States Army. I continued my education and experience working for surveying firms in Indiana and Michigan. In 1972 I passed the requirements and was given a land surveyor’s license. In January, 1974 I bought the necessary surveying equipment and rented an office on Kilgore Avenue in Muncie. The telephone number was 282-5594 and is the same local number you can call today.
Our firm was early 1987 to use the PCcomputer to draw our survey plat. Our distances were measured by electronic distance measurements and the angles were measured by a Theodolite with a 2 second accuracy.
My career has seen more change in 43 years than all of history in boundary surveying. At this time points are determined by GPS. In spite of technology there are a lot of challenges in retracing the footsteps of our predecessors.
I love what I am doing and intend to stay a part of Ashton Land Surveyor, Inc. as I pass the torch to Edward Ashton who is a registered land surveyor in Indiana and Michigan.

Our drafting department works in Carlson Civil Suite. Our field department uses TopCon GPS and Total Station Units for automated field data collection with Magnet Enterprises data collection software.
